Hills Department Store

The Hills Department Store located in Bellview was the favorite shopping place for all your needs. My great grandparents lived in Bellview and we would shop at Hills all the time. The clothes selection was always a favorite. My school clothes usually came from there. There were toys to buy, hardware, shoes, and just about anything else you would want.

Hills was where my Christmas shopping was usually done. My Mom and I would ride the bus to Hills, do a little shopping and then walk to my grandpareents house and spend the rest of the day.

Hills always put on a fantastic 4th of July fireworks display. It drew such a large crowd every year.

I really wish the Hills Department Store was still around.

If you look on Facebook there are groups that remember Hills and you can share other memories there also.

My husband has told me many times that once a month, he and his family would go to Hills to shop on their family outing. He has fond memories of Hills as well. I still have Christmas lights in the original boxes that I bought from Hills many years ago.

What are your memories?

Memories of Growing up in Marion County

This blog will reflect on the things I remember from growing up in Marion County. I will reflect on different places that are not around any more as well as some places that are still here. I have 42 years of memories to share so I should be able to have lots of topics.

Having been born in Fairmont, WV in 1968 I think I have many things to share from around Marion County. Some may be interesting some may be less but I think they will be things you can relate to or reflect on yourself. Feel free to share your thoughts, memories as well as pictures, and any feedback you care to share.

Rabbit Owners Share your I

I own 2 rabbits who live in the house. They are good rabbits and both litter trained.

I have found a great product to use in their litter that keeps the odors down and it also is easy to clean. It is Equine Pine and I get it at Tractor Supply. It is for horse stalls but it works great. I even use it sometimes in my bird cages. The rabbits like it as well to sleep on.

Just wanted to share this thought.
