Scrap-A-Latte's Scrapbooking Crop
Scrap-A-Latte's Scrapbooking Crop The Scrap-A-Lattes Scrapbooing group is open to anyone in who is interested in learning, sharing the hobby and learning new techniques.

If you are new to scrapbooking - Let me tell you a little bit about what we do -

•Each month a "crop" is scheduled. This is the scrapbooker term for a meeting, party, shindig, event etc... Our members gather in one location and haul all of the scrapbooking paraphernalia we can fit into our cars or sometimes two cars.
We meet at the Eldora United Methodist Church on Sapps Run Rd to share our love of scrapbooking. (Normally is is the third Saturday of the month but we do have to change dates occassionally to work around church functions.)

•We have a theme each month and have a potluck meal that goes along with it so that you don't have to eat out - unless you want to. That way we don't have to leave the building if we don't want to!

•The crops are VERY informal so don't feel pressured and the only rules that we have are that you come prepared to have fun! If you're new to the whole thing and are still on the fence about attending let me try to bribe you - a door prize will be given out a each crop!

•If you are brand new to the hobby, don't worry about not having scrapbook tools or the supplies to get started! We gladly share and help you figure out what you need to get you started in this wonderful hobby!

•We occassionally have fun contests and play games. Our group is also very active - we sometimes take scrapbooking roadtrips to shop at stores in other areas (like Pittsburgh), we also go on full weekend retreats which are so much fun they should be ILLEGAL!!!

•It's not expensive to participate in our group we just ask for a donation which is given to the church for the use of their beautiful NEW facility. It is worth every penny to spend a day laughing with this group of rowdy scrappers.

You don't want to miss out on the fun! You may also sign up to become a member on www.MeetUp.com

MEMORIAL DAY - DECORATION DAY

Over the years we have forgotten how Memorial Day originated.  Many historians credit Fairmont's own Julia Pierpoint as the founder.  In May of 1866, scarcely a year after the Civil War, Francis H. Pierpont, Julia and their daughter Anna were sitting in the Governor's Residence in Richmond, Va.  The conversation centered on the neglected Union graves in the nearby Hollywood Cemetery.  They decided to decorate every Union Soldier's grave.  News spread of this event throughout the nation. and inspired General John A. Logan, Commander-In-Chief of the Grand Army of the Republic to order May 30th as the National Decoration Day to Honor the Union Soldiers in 1868.  On May 5, 1968 this day was renamed Memorial Day to honor all soldiers who had bravely fought for their County with a day centered on cleaning graveyards, decorating the graves and for the public to remember them.

The Saturday before Memorial Day has been proclaimed by the State of West Virginia, The County of Marion and the City of Fairmont as Julia Pierpont Day.  This year on that Saturday a special program will be held at Pierpont Community & Technical College (downtown by Veterans Square), Fairmont Historic Landmarks Commission, The Marion County Historical Society, The Three Rivers Festival, Woodlawn Cemetery, the West Virginia Civil War Re-enactors, Marion County Military Veterans and Wha-ke-we-nn.  A Continental Breakfast  catered by Aladdin (cost $10) will be held inside at this site.   A free  program will be presented. Then  a caravan will proceed to Woodlawn Cemetery to decorate the Graves of Francis and Julia Pierpont.  Civil War Markers will also be placed at the graves of some of the Civil War graves that are in Woodlawn.  All veterans will be recognized of all wars at the Cemetery.  Please join us for a morning of what Memorial Day really means.  If you have any questions call 304-367-5398
